SENSORY INTEGRATION
Sensory integration
SI disorders occur when a child has an abnormal integration of sensory stimuli
and experiences flowing from the environment into the central nervous system. Thanks to reliable testing, the therapist is able to choose the form of therapy appropriately in order to achieve the best possible results.
Infants
You are invited to a consultation with a physiotherapist who works with the NDT Bobath method or the Volta method and is also an SI Therapist.
Based on a thorough history, observation of the child and sensory testing, she will assess the quality of the infant's sensory interaction.
The ability to self-regulate has a huge impact on the daily functioning of the child and the whole family.
Children
Preliminary diagnosis of sensory integration - for children under 4 years of age. Includes parental interview and clinical observation.
Full Sensory Integration Diagnosis - for children over 4 years of age. Includes parent interview, clinical observation and sensory integration testing.
Both diagnoses conclude with the submission and discussion of a written document with recommendations.
Individually tailored diagnosis
Depending on the difficulties the child has, diagnosis can take different forms. Most commonly on first meeting, during which a full history is taken, the parents themselves are invited not to talk about the child in front of the child.
During second meeting The diagnostician performs tests and observation of the child in a cool, playful atmosphere in a room equipped with specialised equipment.
If the child feels uncomfortable during the diagnosis despite the pleasant atmosphere, it is carried out in the presence of the parent.
Third visit
At third visit The parents themselves are invited to discuss the diagnosis, or the child is invited back to complete the tests - the SI Diagnostician informs them of this at the second meeting. The diagnosis concludes with a full document that is clear, transparent and very insightful.
Cost of Sensory Integration diagnosis: £600 / 3 x 45 min
Therapeutic support
Already at Stage IV of the diagnosis you receive suggested forms of therapeutic support to get your child the support they need as soon as possible. All forms of comprehensive support are offered by our Kids Medic Centre.
