This is one of the most frequently asked questions I get 🙂
Unfortunately, there is no bath for themyour and one answer.
Bending backwards, flexing, bridging, tilting the head backwards - these are situations that often worry parents, and infants often present them. Fortunately, these and other behaviours observed in the child are not always due to abnormalities. When is it necessary to be vigilant?
Babies often fuss and bend their heads backwards when crying and this is absolutely not necessarily a sign of a developmental disorder ... but BEWARE!!! Incorrect care can exacerbate muscle tension problems.
What can provoke thrush?
1.Vertical babywearing
overloads the toddler's hip joints and spine, which can lead to future postural defects such as scoliosis. If the child's head is tilted back and the legs are straight, we will be provoking a bending pattern in the child.
Caution: vertical carrying can be rightlywe, but only if several conditions are met:
- the legs must be in a wide stance, spread out to the sides, the so-called frog position
- the bottom should be tucked in (the pelvis is then in the correct position), the back is slightly rounded
- the baby's trunk should not be upright, the baby should lean against our chest (hug), should not push away from us and should not bend backwards
2.Incorrect lifting of children
if, when lifting the baby, for example from the changing table, we hold him under the arms and do not lift him in a lateral position, we also provoke great tension on the extensor muscles of the back, which can result in more and more the child's tremors.
3.Stacking toys behind the child, or above the line of sight
so that it must splook upwards to see them. This provokes a straightening in the cervical spine and then in the whole spine and the result is a body stretched backwards.
Sometimes children sleep in a position of high recline
(as if the occiput wanted to touch the back), the reason could be:
- increased muscle tension,
- gastro-oesophageal reflux
- the baby may simply like this position because this is how it was positioned in its mother's belly 🙂 .
As I have written before, there is no definite answer, so it is important for mothers to be attentive in observing their own children. And if you sense that something is wrong, consult a specialist. A correct diagnosis will determine whether your child really has a problem and whether he or she needs therapy.
