What is the diagnosis of ADHD?

ADHD is one of the most commonly diagnosed developmental disorders in children and adolescents. The diagnostic process at KIDS MEDIC consists of several stages in order to be as accurate as possible. It consists of a psychological examination including the most accurate tools of the day for measuring the basic symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder: attention deficit disorder, reaction time, impulsivity and hyperactivity.

When to go to a psychologist for a diagnosis of ADHD

When an adolescent has difficulty maintaining attention, is too impulsive, and is accompanied by hyperactivity, it is worth making a diagnosis of ADHD in order to know how to direct therapeutic plans and what support to give the child at home and at school. Based on the results of the psychological examination, the psychiatrist can confirm or exclude the diagnosis of ADHD.

What is the diagnosis of ADHD in adolescents?

The first stage is to talk to the parents and the teenager, taking a developmental history and listening to the child's school difficulties.
The second stage is the administration of the CONNERS-3 test. At the first visit it is determined which area will be tested, as at this stage it is sometimes useful to also involve the educator to complete the questionnaire, but this is not a necessary criterion.
The next stage is the examination of the child, which involves a Moxo test (computer-based test).
The final result is the submission of a test report to go to a psychiatrist to confirm or rule out ADHD.

For whom is an ADHD diagnosis?

A diagnosis of ADHD can be made as early as 6 years of age.

How long does the diagnosis take?

The psychological diagnosis of ADHD involves an initial meeting with the parents and the teenager (45 minutes), followed by the completion of questionnaires at any time. Once these have been delivered and checked by the psychologist, the teenager is invited for a Moxo test, which takes about 15 minutes, but it is worth reserving half an hour for the appointment. Finally, the psychologist provides a report of the examination with an opinion.

How do you prepare for a class?

It is important that parents are alone at the first diagnostic visit. For the Moxo test, the child must be healthy, rested and have their most important needs met. It is preferable to perform the test in the morning or early afternoon.
