ADHD in children and adolescents is diagnosed after the age of six, however, parents are able to notice symptoms earlier. Very often, children who are referred for a diagnosis of ADHD have had sensory integration disorders, problems concentrating or increased anxiety in earlier years. In children about 6 years of age and in adolescents with attention deficits, severe hyperactivity and impulsivity, sometimes with sleep disorders, anxiety, it is worth making a full diagnosis for ADHD in order to facilitate the child's functioning. The symptoms are not always obvious, so it is worth going for a diagnosis of ADHD if you observe your child:
- hyperactivity
- impulsive behaviour
- transgressing social norms
- sleep disorders
- difficulties in dealing with emotions
- great anxiety
- high attention span
- many superficial interests.
